Greengage plum jelly, the way to go for healthy snack

Increasingly putting emphasis on healthy fruit jelly, Zuozuo is working on a new product. Combining seaweed jelly and greengage plum 青梅果冻, Zuozuo is creating an easy conveniently packed and readily available healthy snack.

They are both high in dietary fibre, rich in vitamins and minerals, Diet and health conscious people can expect a latest hit of Zuozuo’s new line of healthy snacks in its fruit jelly range.

Using carrageenan as the jelly base, greengage plum is added to form the fruit jelly snack cups. Carrageenan used by Zuozuo is derived from red algae and seaweed. The process is the same for producing agar-agar, the alga is boiled down to make a jelly substance.

Red algae or red seaweed is probably the most widely known seaweed used for food. The Chinese call it zicai, known in Japan as nori, this is what sushi wrappers are made from. The red pigments in red seaweed are lost and the final product has a dark greenish color.

Nori is widely used to wrap sushi in Japan and for making numerous snacks. The other common food item is the low cost but highly nutritious kelp.

Greengage plum was developed in France from a green-fruited wild plum. It is identified by its small, oval shape, smooth-textured flesh, and ranging in colour from green to yellow, grown in temperate areas.

Greengage plum considered superfood by both western and eastern dietitians was introduced into England in the early eighteenth century by SirWilliam Gage, hence the name greengage plum. In China, the fruit is known to help eliminate toxic from human body.

Greengage plums are known for their rich, confectionery flavour that causes them to be considered one of the finest dessert plums.

It is a good source of iron and vitamin C; potassium and high in dietary fibre.
